Schools - Teen Mental Health First Aid Course
Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA)
A new program developed for young people
This training package (3.5 hour teen MHFA course), offered by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia, teaches high school students in years 10-12, how to provide mental health first aid to their friends. The course was developed in response to research indicating that young people have a preference for sharing problems with peers. The course curriculum is based on a study undertaken to determine the best actions a young person can undertake to support a peer with a mental health problem.
This program will give teenagers the skills they need to recognise and help with mental health problems and crises in their friends, and to get the help of an adult quickly.
Young people will often turn to each other when stressed or upset, and try to help each other, taking too much on. This course teaches them not to try and take on these problems alone.
